There are individual differences in how exercise with groove rhythm affects executive function. It was found that in participants familiar with groove rhythm + exercise, exercise enhances executive function and prefrontal cortex neural activity, and psychological responses predict the enhancing effects of groove rhythm + exercise on prefrontal cortex neural activity and executive function. This demonstrates that sensorimotor synchronization and arousal in response to groove rhythm + exercise are important factors, contributing to the development of exercise prescriptions using music.

This research was conducted with Lecturer Genta Ochi from our lab participating in research led by Assistant Professor Takemune Fukuie from Hokkaido University of Health Sciences and Professor Hideaki Soya from the University of Tsukuba.
